Georgia Bucket List: Things to do all over Georgia

Do you want to travel to Georgia but don’t know where to go? Here is a Georgia bucket list that you should use whether you live in Georgia or not.

This actually might be a good list for you if you are wanting to travel to Georgia but you aren’t sure where to go. There are tons of fun places that you may not know about.

Georgia may not be New York or California but I love being able to live here. I don’t think I would want to live anywhere else. There are tons of nice people and things that you can do every weekend depending on where you are.

To be honest I have lived in south Georgia all of my life but I have never really experienced the state like I really should. There are quite a few places that I would love to visit but just haven’t done it.

Georgia Bucket List

That’s going to change though because I do want to make the most out of the state that I live in! I feel like I pretty much live in my head rather than living in the world and experiencing new things.

This is one of the reasons that I actually started The Alternative South. I want to live my life but I’m scared. I know many of you are probably the same way.

Here are some Georgia bucket list ideas if you’re wanting to live your life and start traveling.

Cloudland Canyon

Cloudland Canyon is a place I actually just heard about. This is the whole point of me doing some research on places to go in the state.

Like I said I have lived in south Georgia all of my life but I have never really got the chance to explore the state very much. We have visited other cities but I only got to see a very small part of them since I was going with my family.

Cloudland Canyon is actually a trail in north Georgia that is close to a lot of other places if you’re wanting to do a variety of things instead of just hiking.

This area has a lot of places where you can go camping in the area if that’s your thing as well.

This place is located at 122 Cloudland Canyon Park Rd, Rising Fawn, GA 30738.

Add Driftwood Beach to your Georgia bucket list

I have known about this place before doing research but I have never been there.

Driftwood Beach is actually on my Georgia bucket list and looks like it would be a really fun place to go to. I love going to beaches but the only one we really ever go to is Panama City Beach down in Florida.

I would love to go and visit Driftwood Beach sometime next year during the summer. Hopefully, it’s something that we can do with our son.

Considering we haven’t really gone on vacation as a family since our son has been born I really want to try to go somewhere before he starts preschool. The beach looks really pretty too.

The address to Driftwood beach is N Beachview Dr, Jekyll Island, GA 31527.

Little Grand Canyon

So my husband and I have actually gone to the Little Grand Canyon a long time ago. I do want to take our son there eventually but there’s a lot of walking so that might be a while.

This is a really fun thing to do if your family is pretty active. Granted we aren’t very active either but sometimes we do like going somewhere that requires you to be active.

I always seem to get in such a better mood when I’m outside actually doing something rather than staying inside.

If you’re wanting to visit the grand canyon then I highly suggest visiting the little Grand Canyon. I do mean visiting here if you’re closer to The Little Grand Canyon. If you’re closer to the actual Grand Canyon then by all means go to that one first!

Georgia Aquarium

The Georgia Aquarium is somewhere I have been before as well.

The only reason it is on my Georgia bucket list is that I want to go again. It’s been a little over ten years since we have gone and I actually haven’t gone with my husband.

I know this would be something that all of us would enjoy as a family.

The aquarium is huge and there’s a lot there that you can really look at. Just make sure that if you are going here with your kids then make you bring a stroller or something for them to sit in.

This is probably the biggest aquarium that I have actually even visited. Granted there are probably bigger.

Explore Film locations

If you don’t know it does feel like Georgia is starting to become the new Hollywood when it comes to filming.

Over the past several years there have been tons of movies and tv shows that have been filmed all over the state. This includes Stranger Things and Zombieland.

I just kind of wish this was something that happened when I was a lot younger. When I was in high school I took a broadcasting class and loved movies. It was so much fun being able to see how newscasters were able to do things behind the scenes.

We were even able to see how some special effects were done in movies as well. It was so much fun. So, I do kind of wish that these sorts of things happened a lot sooner so I could go and visit them back then.

Visit Cumberland Island National Park

So I found out about Cumberland island national park a long time ago when I looked up some bucket list ideas for myself.

I do have to say that this island looks so pretty and I really want to go there and visit one day. From what I can tell there are sea turtles that lay their eggs on the beach. Can you imagine going there to visit and see all of the baby sea turtles!? I would absolutely love this experience.

On top of that, there are wild horses who roam freely around the island. Horses are probably one of my favorite animals so I would love to go and see this.

I can’t wait to plan out this trip and see if we would enjoy it as much as I think we would.

Go Glamping

So, I have never heard of glamping before doing research on this post. It’s kind of hard for me to actually wrap my head around this concept and I don’t know why.

Glamping is pretty much luxury camping. You’re actually staying in a tent but it’s a really big tent and it almost gives you the impression of staying in the actual room.

I think this is the only way I can see myself actually going camping. My thing is that I do not want to sleep on the ground and most of these glamping tents have actual beds.

It’s not that I’m scared of bugs or anything but I’m not getting any younger and I would prefer not to sleep on the ground!

Have you heard of glamping before? Or am I the only one who has never heard about it until recently?

Stay in a tree house in North Georgia for a fun Georgia bucket list idea

Georgia bucket lis

What is a better way to feel like a kid other than staying in a tree house?

As a kid, I never had the privilege of having a tree house. I always wanted one though. Seeing movies where kids had their own little space, other than their rooms, where they could do their own thing made me want my own.

So, going on vacation to a tree house could be a good way to either live your childhood dreams or revisit your childhood memories.

I do wish that there was something like this in South Georgia though. It seems like all of the things that I wouldn’t mind trying to do are hours away from us.

But that’s okay because staying in a treehouse seems like it would be a really fun thing to do. I can see this being a really fun family trip or more of a romantic trip as well.

How do you feel about staying in a tree house as a vacation idea?

Visit Colonial Park Cemetary

So, I know many of you are probably wondering why exactly would you want to visit a cemetery where you are more than likely not going to know anyone there. But it’s actually a pretty fun thing to do.

When we went to Savannah many many years ago I actually enjoyed going through the cemetery. For me, though I do enjoy going to things that are on the creepy side. The cemetery is supposedly haunted and that’s why a lot of people tend to go there and visit.

There is a ghost tour that takes you around Savannah to all of the haunted locations and the Colonial Park Cemetary is one of those locations. If you ever visit Savannah I highly suggest doing the ghost tour because it is such a fun thing to do.

For the most part, those tours aren’t scary if you are questioning it. They are for the most part giving you the history of the locations.

Go to Devil’s Bridge

I know this isn’t really going to be a location for everyone. For some reason, I have always been a little fascinated with haunted locations and apparently, Devil’s Bridge is haunted.

With a name like that it kind of gives it away. At least with a name like that it better be haunted or have some sort of legend surrounding it.

Growing up I have always been pulled towards things that are creepy and I have always wanted to create a bucket list where I get to visit places that are haunted. I’m not fully sure if I believe in ghosts but I do question if they are real or not.

Devil’s Bridge is actually located in Cochran Georgia. If you have seen this bridge then how creepy is it?

Visit Central State hospital for a haunted Georgia bucket list idea

So, as far as I can tell Central State Hospital isn’t up for exploration. But this is another area that is haunted.

Central State Hospital is very old and once operated as a mental hospital. I think if you’re a horror fan or just interested in the paranormal then you know that that is scary in itself.

I think a lot of people associate old hospitals with haunted. At least I know I do.

For me, haunted locations are fun to visit. I know I shouldn’t necessarily use the word fun but they always grab my attention. Central State Hospital is probably going to be added to my haunted locations bucket list so I can go at a later date.

If you’re wanting to visit then the hospital is located in Milledgeville, GA.

The Golden Isles

So, The Golden Isles is also located around the same place as Driftwood Beach. If you’re visiting one then you might as well visit both.

This whole town seems like it would be a beautiful place to go. I’m just kind of surprised that my family has never gone there. At least I don’t remember ever going there.

If you’re an outdoorsy type of person then I suggest maybe going to try these places out. It seems like The Golden Isles is the perfect place to go and visit for those who love the outdoors.

I think it usually depends on my mood but for the most part, I’m a very outdoorsy person. It’s something I have always loved doing so I really can’t wait to go to this area.

Watson Mill Bridge for a cool Georgia bucket list location

Watson Mill Bridge is actually located in Comer, GA. Ever since watching the show N0S4A2, I have wanted to go and visit bridges like this.

This is a covered bridge that actually looks pretty similar to the one that is on the show.

This one might be a fun one to go to because you’re not just visiting a bridge. There is a body of water located by it and it does have a couple of trails there too.

If there wasn’t anything else there then I probably wouldn’t suggest it because why go somewhere to just look at a bridge? It might be a little different if this actually was the filming location but still.

Watson Mill Bridge might be the perfect location for you if you enjoy walking on trails and actually want to see a covered bridge.

Poole’s Mill Covered Bridge

Poole’s Mill Covered Bridge is located in Forsyth, GA.

The main reason I’m adding this one is that there’s a lot of history behind it. So, this bridge might be a cool place to visit if you’re interested in history and want to get out of the house.

I have never heard of this one before but I wouldn’t mind going to visit and learning about the history behind it. Granted I’m not really a big history person and actually hated history in school.

But it all really depends on what I’m learning and if it really catches my attention.

Visit Okefenokee Swamp to make the most of your Georgia bucket list

My only issue with Okefenokee Swamp is that there’s really not a lot to it.

My husband and I went long before our son was even thought about and there was a boat ride through the swamp. If I remember correctly that was it though.

I do want to try going back here because it has been so long and maybe we actually missed something. Part of me wants to see how our son does with it as well.

I still highly suggest at least adding Okefenokee Swamp to your Georgia bucket list because it would still be a fun thing to do. We have a lot of swamp areas around here and they are really cool to see. It is located in Waycross, Georgia!

Radium Springs

So Radium Springs is located in Albany, Georgia. This is actually the first time I’m hearing about it and we’re not even that far from there. Within the first couple of years when my husband and I first got together we actually went to Albany to go to the aquarium.

If I had known about the springs then I would probably have gone there too because there really isn’t a lot to the aquarium.

Just looking at the pictures of the Radium Springs I would love to go here and visit. It looks pretty and is the perfect place to go and relax.

I don’t know if the water is swimmable but there are trails and places to hang out around the water and explore.

What locations are on your Georgia bucket list? I highly suggest trying to find this to do in South Georgia as well. A lot of people associate Georgia with Atlanta and the things that surround the city. But there is so much more to Georgia than Atlanta.

Soon I may do a post on all the things that you are able to do in South Georgia and some of the events that happen around the area. People are actually starting to catch on to how fun things can be down here because a few of the cities are starting to get pretty busy.
