Winter Bucket List: Things you can do this year

Winter is one of the hardest times of year for me to figure out exactly what to do. I don’t really have many winter clothes and I really hate the cold weather anyways. So, this winter bucket list is for me just as much as it is for you.

I usually struggle with this because for the most part, I do not like getting outside when it’s really cold. Granted our winters may not really be anything compared to those of you who really get a true winter. But I’m from the south okay! I do not like the cold.

I have always been a warm-weather type of girl but this year I couldn’t make myself get out this past summer either. It constantly felt like it was 100 degrees and I just don’t want to deal with extreme heat.

So, this is probably the first year I’m actually looking forward to the cooler weather. Now I just need to buy the clothes that will fit this time of year.

Winter bucket list

Even though I am kind of looking forward to the cooler weather I still don’t really know what to do around this time of year. I know I’m not going to want to be outside a lot when it’s here. Since school is happening around this time of year there are really not a lot of indoor activities to do for adults or toddlers.

So, you have to get creative and figure out what kind of things you can do. I know I have always had a hard time entertaining myself much less a toddler.

If you’re in the same boat then here are some winter bucket list ideas that would be pretty easier to do.

Bake festive cookies for a fun winter bucket list

Winter Bucket List

Baking cookies is something that I definitely want to do this year with our son. Kids obviously love cookies but at this age, they really enjoy making them too.

Baking cookies with your kids is something that you can actually turn into a tradition to do every year around Christmas. When I was younger this was something that we actually started doing and I really enjoyed it.

Granted this was something that started when I was a teenager. But I don’t see why this can’t be done either by yourself or with a toddler under supervision.

Baking festive treats are so much fun too. As long as you make it fun and don’t see it as a chore

Decorate

Decorating has never really been my thing. I have always considered it more of a chore than anything else.

On top of that, I don’t really think that it helps that I’m not really a fan of Christmas, to begin with. I know I know here comes the hate.

I’m not really sure why I all of a sudden just started not liking Christmas because I did when I was growing up. I partly blame it on working in retail because I was never really able to spend time with family or play with the gifts that I got for Christmas.

When working retail I had absolutely no enjoyment out of the holidays. But now that I’m a stay-at-home mom and hopefully never going to work retail again I can start decorating and making the most out of Christmas again.

How do you get in the Christmas spirit?

Watch Hallmark Movies as a fun winter bucket list

Winter Bucket List

So Hallmark movies have never really been my thing.

I know a lot of people love them though. On top of that, they are kind of wholesome and for the most part uplifting. For the most part, I have always found the movies a little bit cheesy. Not only that I feel like they copy and paste each storyline.

Maybe that’s just me though.

This year I may try to start watching them just so I can kind of get in the spirit of the holidays just like everyone else does.

What is one of your favorite Hallmark movies that you think I should get started with?

Start a tradition

This is something that I want to start doing this year. Having a tradition to do every single year will kind of give me something to look forward to.

I know many people to do elves on the shelf. It has been a very popular thing over the past couple of years but that is one thing that I DO NOT want to do. I get that we’re supposed to make things fun for our kids around the holidays, but I do want to make things fun for me as well.

I just don’t see elf on a shelf being as memorable as I would like it to be.

So, this year I will be starting a tradition but it just won’t be an elf-on-a-shelf type of tradition.

There are tons of them out there that you can do.

Plan new year resolutions

I know this is an obvious winter bucket list thing to do. Right around December is when a good chunk of people start writing out their new years resolutions and then *cough* *cough* doesn’t stick with them.

Don’t get me wrong I have been one of those people as well. I don’t know how many times I have planned out a new years resolution and then ended up forgetting about it within a couple of weeks.

Since this blog incorporates self-help and living a better life I do want to do better about this. I want you guys to be able to do better as well.

All of us should be living a better life. We should all be able to reach out and grab whatever we want.

You deserve it and I deserve it. One of those ways is to get to the point where you start creating smart goals and accomplishing goals. There is no reason you should be failing in life. We only have a short life, to begin with.

Make Christmas Treats

Making Christmas treats is one of the things that we do as a family every single year.

I do have to say that this is one of the things that I really look forward to doing in December. It’s a lot of work depending on what you decide to do and how much you decide to make.

Our whole family makes a lot of candy/treats during this time of the year and we kind of make it a family event. Now I kind of want to get my son in on it as well.

If you love making things and kind of have a sweet tooth then I highly suggest adding this to your bucket list. It is so much fun if you actually make it fun.

Look at Christmas Lights

I think looking at Christmas lights is one of the obvious things to add to your winter bucket list.

We started this last year and our son absolutely loved looking at the lights. I loved being able to see his enjoyment of it as well. To be honest I can’t wait to see how he is this year when we go look at Christmas lights.

Thankfully in our area, we have an area that we can drive through to see them.

Hopefully, our son enjoys them this year as well!

I get that this is something that not everyone can really do. This is why it kind of sucks living in rural areas where there’s really not a lot around. If this is you then hopefully some of the houses around you do a lot of decorating.

Random Acts of Kindness (one of the best winter bucket list ideas)

I think around Christmas time is the perfect time to do things like this. This is the perfect winter bucket list idea for this time of year.

Christmas time is one of the perfect times of year to do a random act of kindness. I think this is the hardest time for a lot of people. This is the time when quite a few people don’t really have the money to do a lot or get their kids or family gifts.

On top of that, it seems like this is the time of year when people really get depressed. It’s supposed to be the happiest time of the year but there are more people depressed than actually happy.

Doing random acts of kindness is a good way to make other people happy and in return, it makes you happy as well. This is a good practice to honestly do throughout the year but actually might be a good idea to start around this time of year!

What are some good winter bucket lists that you think I should add to the list? I would love to hear your thoughts on some really fun things you like to do around this time of year. Make sure you check out my other bucket list ideas here.
