Haunted Places in Georgia to give you chills

I have always been the type of person who loves going to haunted places. I don’t know why but I always get curious if it’s real. I’m definitely one of those people who believe in it, but I also don’t. It’s one of those things that I can’t decide if I truly believe in or not. Since I know that I’m not the only one who feels this way I’m creating a list of haunted places in Georgia. Hopefully, some of these places are new to you.

If there are people who actually enjoy this kind of post then I might try doing haunted locations in other states. I know I can’t be the only one who really enjoys researching haunted locations. Eventually, I do want to start visiting most of these places. I’m not going to say all because that’s kind of a lot of traveling.

Haunted places in Georgia

If I do get the chance to visit most of these places then that would be great too. If you know of any other haunted places in Georgia then let me know in the comments!

Windsor Hotel

The Windsor Hotel is a hotel that was built in 1892. It is rumored that a little girl is one of the few that actually haunt the location. The little girl was the daughter of a housekeeper. Apparently, both daughter and mother have been pushed down an elevator and killed.

It is said that some of the presidents that have actually stayed at this hotel still roam the floors as well.

I don’t know what it is about haunted hotels that give me the creeps, but there is always something about haunted buildings that kind of give me goosebumps.

On top of the woman and her kid haunting the hotel, there are also rumors that another worker is still roaming there. Many guests have seen him as they are entering the hotel and he’ll ask if they want their bags to be taken.

Let me just say this… If I’m still working in the afterlife someone better figure out a way to get me away.

Oakland Cemetery (Located in one of the most haunted places in Georgia)

Haunted Places in Georgia

How can you have a Haunted Places in Georgia list without a cemetery being included? This Cemetary was started back in 1850 and originally had a different name. Not long after it was actually renamed the Oakland Cemetary.

For a while, this cemetery only covered six acres of land but now it covers around 48 acres of land. That is a huge freaking cemetery!

One of the main reasons this cemetery is so huge is that back in the day this was the only place that a lot of people could afford to be buried. It was cheap and a lot of families really couldn’t afford to be buried anywhere else.

A lot of the legends actually do involve soldiers that were involved in the Civil War. There have been people who say they have seen union soldiers hanging from a tree along with hearing roll call for the soldiers.

I swear if I see or hear this I would probably get goosebumps.

The Ellis Hotel

Back in 1946 is when a fire started and The Ellis Hotel burned down. This fire killed 119 people that are rumored to still be haunting the hotel today. The fire broke out around three in the morning and there have been multiple people who heard the fire alarm going off around this time of night.

This is one of those haunted places in Georgia that I think would kind of give me the creeps. I know I would probably creep myself out more than anything.

On top of hearing the fire alarm right around the time of the fire, there have been also been numerous ghost appearances from guests that have stayed there. It does make me wonder if some of these people are just putting ideas in their heads and aren’t really seeing anything.

The Marshall House

The Marshall House is actually one of the oldest hotels in Savannah. It was built in 1851 and bought by Mary Marshall. It has also served as a hospital and a boarding house.

The Marshall House only had a short period of being a hospital. That was back when yellow fever was around. During that time a lot of soldiers died in the hotel.

When the hotel when under construction for renovations in the late 1990’s it is rumored that the workers found bones while working there. That’s just a rumor though!

Guests and workers at The Marshall House have stated that the lights have flickered on and off randomly. They have also said that the faucets in bathrooms have turned on randomly.

Considering my family and I went to Savannah, GA back when I was a teenager I actually don’t remember going to the Marshall house. We did go on a haunted tour while we were there so I’m kind of surprised we didn’t get the chance to see this place.

The Pirate House (located in one of the most haunted places in Georgia)

So, this is another place that’s located in Savannah, GA as well. I believe Savannah is one of the most haunted cities in Georgia.

When we went to Savannah back when I was a teenager I do remember going to The Pirates House to eat.

The Pirates House is one of those places that no one really wanted to go to back in the day. This was a place that a lot of seamen went to in order to escape and drink. On top of that, a lot of bad people came here such as criminals and people who just seemed a little off.

A lot of people have claimed to have seen shadow people walking through The Pirates House. Some of the people that have worked there have stated that there have been times when they have felt like they were being watched. This was when the restaurant was empty as well.

If you’re wanting to visit haunted places then I highly suggest going to Savannah. They have ghost tours all throughout the year, so you don’t have to go in October just to experience it.

Old Candler Hospital

Old Candler Hospital was built in 1904 and is located in Savannah, GA. This is one of the oldest hospitals that are still in use today. It was meant to be used for those who were injured or got sick in school but instead was used for those who got yellow fever. When that happened hundreds of people died.

There is a rumor that there is a tunnel under the hospital that was used to move dead bodies. There was a point when these tunnels were completely full of dead bodies before they got a chance to move them.

On top of this, the hospital has an old oak tree that’s on the grounds that has a dark past as well. That’s something that I’m not going to get into though

You can actually take a tour of the hospital but I have read that people usually see things at night when they take a tour. Quite a few people have seen things around that actual tree as well.

Lake Lanier (one of the most haunted places in Georgia)

Haunted places in Georgia

So, I actually didn’t really know anything about Lake Lanier until right around the time I got TikTok. After that things about Lake Lanier started showing up on my for you page.

Lake Lanier is up near Atlanta and it is a self-made lake. Back in the 1950s, there were a few towns that were flooded along with some graveyards that were flooded as well. With the graveyards being flooded a lot of people think that the lake is cursed for that reason.

Since 1994 more than 200 people have died in some sort of accident on the lake which makes the mystery surrounding it worse.

I hate to admit that I actually kind of want to go and visit this area. Lake Lanier seems like a really creepy area even though there are a lot of people who don’t necessarily believe this sort of thing. I know I won’t get into the lake because I don’t want to risk anything. Just going there and visiting would be a lot of fun.

Devil’s Bridge

Haunted places in Georgia

Devil’s Bridge is located in Cochran, Georgia. It is said that a lot of people use to use this bridge for satanic activity.

Now visitors talk about how they park their cars on the bridge. When they get out they have their car turned off and after a minute or two they will see a car racing toward them at really fast speeds.

I actually wouldn’t mind visiting this area at some point. I’m not really sure if I believe the haunting of this area since I can’t find a lot about it. There are not a lot of stories that I can find other than what I have already added.

I know that doesn’t mean anything. A place can be haunted and not have many stories about it on the internet. If you have heard anything about this bridge then let me know in the comments!

Where are some haunted places in Georgia that you have visited? It honestly doesn’t surprise me that Georgia has such a haunted past. It’s one of the oldest states and a lot of bad things have happened here throughout the years.
