Fun Things to do in Thomasville GA

Looking for places to visit in Georgia? There are a lot of fun things to do in South Georgia that not many people know about because they don’t look further than Atlanta. There are a lot of fun things to do in Thomasville GA and the town is so pretty.

I lived in Thomasville up until I was twenty-three and then I moved. But thankfully I’m only an hour away so I’m able to still go over there and visit and do all of the fun things that it has to offer.

To be honest I grew up in Thomasville and thought it was no fun at all. Some of the things that they include now were not available back when I was growing up there. But the town is growing and starting to do things for adults and for families. I do kind of wish that it was something that they would have started back when I was a kid.

Back when I was a kid and still lived there most of the strangers knew who I was even though I was never with my dad when he showed them a house (he’s a realtor). Let me tell ya, I hated that they knew who I was. I couldn’t become famous huh? But now it seems like most people there don’t who I am and I’m here for it. And now I feel like I’m being called back to move there and to raise my son there.

Thankfully the city is changing some and it is starting to grow a lot. After being away for almost ten years and having to travel back and forth to go see family I want to move back. Gas is too high right now and I miss seeing my family as much as I use to. On top of that, I would love for our son to go to school there.

If you’re ever thinking about coming here to visit here then there are some fun things to do in Thomasville GA that will make you fall in love with the city.

Downtown shopping

So, it seems like the longer that I have been away from Thomasville the more that they are trying to put focus on the downtown area. They are wanting to put a lot of focus on local shopping and just downtown in general.

Don’t get me wrong that is absolutely okay. Downtown has always been a pretty area compared to a lot of other cities. What makes it stand out is the road in that area. The entire downtown district has a brick road. It’s really cool but can also be very annoying at times.

There are a lot of boutiques and other kinds of cool shops that are down there as well.

If you ever go to Thomasville and go to the downtown area make sure you go and visit Southern Elegance & Charm Boutique. This is such a cute little store that I would recommend anyone going to.

If you’re a big shopper I don’t think you’ll really regret going down there to visit.

Pebble Hill

Pebble Hill is actually where my husband and I got married at. It is such a pretty plantation and I would recommend anyone who is visiting to go there and take a tour of the place.

One of the cool things is that they have tours of the grounds and they have tours of some of the houses that are on the grounds as well.

The only downside is if you have kids under the age of six then you probably won’t be able to do anything with them on the plantation. That is a little disappointing to me because I have thought about taking my son there for a little activity. But he has a few years before he gets there.

This is a pretty place to go and visit if you’re wanting to do something outdoors.

Pebble Hill is such a cool place to go to if you’re a history type of person and love learning new things and learning about the area.

Lapham-Patterson House

Lapham-Patterson House is a place that I have never been to and I actually want to go and visit.

My family has told me that I had gone there when I was younger and was modeling, but I don’t remember it. I would love to go there and actually take a tour.

I have actually heard that this house was haunted but I don’t really know how true that is. This is a house that was built back in 1884 and is one of the oldest houses in Thomasville. I would love to try and visit there now that I’m an adult and I would actually be able to remember it.

I always hear a lot of people say that they think this is a really cool area to go and visit.

What makes this home stand out is all of the doors and windows that are in the house. On top of that, there are nineteen rooms in the house! Can you imagine having this many rooms?

The Big Oak

Fun things to do in Thomasville GA

If you’re downtown then I highly suggest going to the big oak while you’re down there. You still may have to drive to it depending on where exactly you are downtown because it can still be a long walk.

There’s really not a lot to it but it is a cool place to go to and take pictures.

The Big Oak is one of many historic sites in Thomasville and was dated to be around back in 1680. Even though I have gone to the big oak before I actually didn’t know about it being there for as long as it was. This kind of makes me realize that I should probably look into the history of Thomasville a little more.

The Big Oak is a pretty location that I think everyone should go and visit at least once in their life. I do know that a horror movie was filmed in this location not that long ago.

The Big Oak is definitely a location that you should go and check out if you are ever here visiting.

Taste of Thomasville Food Tour

Taste of Thomasville Food Tour is one thing that actually started at some point after I moved out of Thomasville. I wish it didn’t because I probably would have done it back when I was living there.

The main reason they started it is because at some point after I moved is when they really started pushing downtown. Their main focus is promoting downtown and downtown stores to get people from other towns to come and visit.

I can’t say that I really blame them because Thomasville really does have a cool downtown area and is unique in its own way.

Taste of Thomasville food tour is definitely one of those fun things to do in Thomasville GA when you’re looking for something to do.

The Rose Garden & Cherokee Lake Park

Fun things to do in Thomasville GA

The Rose Garden and Cherokee Lake Park are actually connected which is why I added them together.

If you’re ever looking for a place to go and exercise then I highly suggest going here because you’re able to walk around Cherokee Lake Park.

To be honest I don’t really understand why Cherokee Lake Park is called a lake though. It’s actually a lot smaller than what I would consider a lake to be. It really should be called Cherokee pond because that’s about how big it is.

Despite that, I do suggest going here especially if you like the outdoors. It’s a good way to get you outside and you’re near somewhere pretty.

This is a good area to go to when you’re really wanting to get out of the house and be outside. There are picnic areas here you can go to and eat your lunch. Since Thomasville is considered the city of roses I don’t think it would be the same without the rose garden.

Thomasville History Center

What’s a town without some sort of history center?

This is yet another thing that I don’t remember ever going to. To be honest I’m not sure if I have ever gone through school or if maybe I went through school when I was a lot younger.

I promise I did do some things in the town when I was there. My family just didn’t do these sorts of things. When my son gets older I do want to do some things like this with him so he can have a better experience than I did growing up. I want him to be able to say he has done certain things that other kids have done.

A part of me wants him to have some sort of interest in history as well. Plus, on top of that many years ago, I was asked about the history of Thomasville and I couldn’t answer it. I never liked history and I pretty much just thought of it as I just live here and I don’t really care about the history.

That’s a mindset that I want to kind of change!

Fun things to do in Thomasville – Birdsong Nature Center

Birdsong Nature Center is something that I really didn’t know about until I started doing some research on Thomasville.

I know I know most of you are probably wondering if I ever really lived in Thomasville because I never really did anything in my own hometown. But at a young age, I had gone through a lot so we never really got the chance to do anything. As I got older I never really wanted to do those things.

Now that I’m a parent I actually want to take my son to all of the places! The Birdsong Nature Center is one of those places I actually want to go and visit. Especially since it’s one of the places that I actually never heard of.

It doesn’t help that Thomasville really started growing after I left and moved out. So, some of these things I never really got the opportunity to even really do in the first place. But this is a place that I really want to go and do with my son hopefully soon.

But I’m also an outdoorsy person so I love doing things like this!

The Ritz Amphitheater – Fun things to do in Thomasville GA with concerts

This is another thing that was created at some point after I moved. I’m not really sure when they did this and it kind of surprised me that they did it, to begin with.

I swear growing up Thomasville really didn’t have half of the things that they do now. That’s part of the reason I wanted to get out. I found it to be really boring because they literally never had anything to do.

Now it seems like they have more options. Granted I know some people will still find Thomasville boring. I know not everyone drinks wine and will do the wine tasting tour that is hosted downtown.

But I do wish they had the Amphitheater back when I was younger and was always bored at home.

I want to try and go here when they actually have a concert. It seems like it would be a fun thing to do!

The Amphitheater is definitely one of those fun things in Thomasville GA that you should add to your list.

Thomasville Center for the Arts – fun things to do in Thomasville GA for those who enjoy art

fun things to do in Thomasville GA

So I haven’t been to Thomasville Center for the Arts since I was a kid. I have always loved drawing. Granted it’s something that I have stopped doing but I do want to get back into it.

Thomasville Center for the Arts has a gallery for those who enjoy the arts. On top of that, they do have classes for adults and kids. They have photography classes and different types of drawing classes.

I would absolutely love to go back so I can get back into the habit of drawing again. Actually, I wouldn’t mind doing the photography class either. But like I said I would go here and look at the art if that’s something that you are interested in!

If you’re coming to Thomasville then I hope you are able to find some fun things to do. Even though I kind of hated Thomasville growing up it is a city I hold close to my heart. Now that I’m older I love it so much more now than when I did when I was younger. But I do think that a lot of us are like that when we are younger. I know many people begin to love the places they grew up in as they’re older.

These are just a few fun things to do in Thomasville GA. Most of these activities are good ways to get the full experience of the city. If you’re new here then I hope you have fun! Make sure to check out my Georgia bucket list if you’re wanting to check out other cities as well.
